Here’s what Claudio Ranieri has taught us about success, according to Jon White, our Managing Director in London.
Leicester City FC winning the Premier League has not only breathed new life into football and sport in general, but also into the very substance of what it really takes to be a winner.
Of course you need talent, but talent is merely table stacks in the game. Just ask Claudio Ranieri.
As we admire and celebrate with Claudio and his supposed ‘no hopers’ we can reflect on what the nation’s underdogs have taught us about success during the last eight months.
1. Shoot for the stars
Never allow yourself to undersell what can be achieved if you really commit, focus and plan.
2. Don’t be an island
Lean on, learn from and grow with others. The collective impact will always trump individual delivery. We have a responsibility to raise the enjoyment, passion and delivery of everyone around us.
3. Put a smile on faces
Winning is fun, never a chore and everyone loves an ‘optimista’. It’s infectious, it’s attractive, it’s energizing. The alternative is a drain, a barrier, boring.
4. Never take anything for granted
There is always someone who will happily eat your lunch if you let them. So make things happen, never rest, try new things and stretch yourself.
Finally and I think most admirable of all is number five.
5. Be humble
Today’s heroes and champagne celebrations may be someone else’s to enjoy one day, so when it’s your turn enjoy it to the hilt, but never ram it down other peoples’ throats. What goes around so very often comes around!
Huge congratulations to Claudio Ranieri and all of his players. But also thank you, for showing us that success isn’t all about money.
