Wonder what it’s like to join the team during lockdown? We recently chatted with our latest recruits to hear what it’s been like to work remotely at Elmwood London. Read on for more from our new Senior Designer, Mimi van Helfteren.
Elmwood London is hiring! We’re looking for an Account Executive, Account Director, and Visual Identity Design Director.
Mimi, how long have you been at Elmwood?
I started at the beginning of April, one week into lockdown.
If you had different choices for employers, why was Elmwood the choice over them?
I found in my interview with Elmwood that the people who interviewed me responded really well to questions about the social side of life. It’s half about the work and half about the people because you spend so much time together. I’m very into the social side and organizing parties and drinks and quizzes and things, and I felt like my interviewers had loads to say about that and were very positive about it as well. On top of that, they were super passionate about Elmwood’s work. They filled me in on some really exciting projects, and I could just see how inspired they were.
How do you feel you’ve grown professionally while here?
I feel like, at Elmwood, senior team members are really good at letting people take the reins quite a lot, which is really helpful. They’re keen to get people to own projects and carry them from stage to stage and be client-facing.
How would you describe the people at Elmwood London in three words?
Positive, compassionate, up-for-a-laugh.
The culture in three words?
Focused, creative, committed.
What are you excited about for the future of Elmwood?
I’m excited to see where Elmwood can take me. It seems like a great place for career development. Already since I’ve been here despite the current climate, there have been promotions happening and new responsibilities and ability to move around the agency.
What advice would you give someone who’s considering applying for a job at Elmwood London?
Just do it. As soon as I joined, I was like, “Oh my god, everyone here is just so nice.” They’re so passionate about the work but also genuinely want to get to know you and help you day to day—even virtually, which is lovely. Definitely join.
