Local authorities spend £850 million picking up after litterbugs. Environmental charity Hubbub thinks this is a waste, so they’ve launched a campaign called Neat Streets.
The campaign has a few clean-up acts. A flashmob breaks out into celebration when a member of the public picks up a rogue piece of litter. Ashtrays invite you to vote for sports bets by placing your cigarette butt into a box. While ‘Join The Gum’ adverts have x’s marking the spots where old chewing gum can be stuck to reveal an image.
For now Neat Streets is only running on a street in Westminster, London. But Hubbub have offered to let other organisations learn from their rubbish experience so the scheme can be rolled out across the country. Tidy.
