This week is the New York takeover and first we take a look at how the world’s first packaging-free store is leading the waste free revolution…
Brooklyn’s Package Free takes conscious consumerism to the next level. They’re on a mission to reduce waste and offer people alternatives to single-use plastics. Committed to protecting our earth, the sleek retailer exclusively sells and ships plastic-free. And they’re making an impact — 4M plastic straws and 3M plastic bags have avoided landfills thanks to Package Free.
Their clever “Zero Free Kits” target occasions when people typically rely on disposable plastics, like menstruation or oral hygiene, with reusable items and “end of life” details instructing how to recycle or compost the items when the time comes. They educate, too, with a dinner prep series demonstrating just how easy it to cook waste-free.
As startups think outside the box (literally and figuratively) and states continues to pass eco-friendly legislation, the pressure grows for brands to assess their practices. Starbucks and Disney are the first to ban plastic straws. Who’s next?
