If you thought giant coffee chains couldn’t create the next hipster coffee creation, you’d be wrong. Starbucks has launched a brand spanking new beverage made from coffee cherry husks – ‘food trend alert!’
The buzz-worthy combination was created at the brand’s experimental Seattle-based Roastary and Tasting room during its Barista Innovation Challenge – all about baristas showcasing their creativity and their ability to innovate, around a given theme.
The Cascara Latte (meaning ‘shell’ in Spanish) uses the bean’s by-product, which is usually discarded during the coffee-making process. The Cascara is added to the steamy beverage, as the pièce de résistance – giving the coffee a subtle sweet flavour, with hints of brown sugar and maple.
What another great scheme to add to the coffee giant’s roaster of sustainability? Definitely warming our hearts.
