Made of tiles, designed to mimic nature’s environment
Did you know that a garbage truck worth of plastic enters the ocean every minute?
Volvo has multiple initiatives to combat plastic pollution. Programs like the Ocean Race, which hosts beach clean-ups all over the world, help the environment, but clean-ups alone aren’t nearly enough to save our oceans.
That’s why Volvo has used divergent thinking to create a more impactful solution to combat plastic pollution and urbanization. They’ve partnered with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science and Reef Design Lab to together build a Living Seawall in the Sydney Harbor. The wall is comprised of fifty manmade tiles that are designed to mimic the root structure of mangrove trees. Collectively, the Living Seawall becomes a viable marine habitat that attracts filter-feeding organisms. It’s one step forward in the fight against plastic pollution.
