We love a good album cover. That might be one of the reasons why Vinyl is making a come back. Sales have steadily grown over the past ten years, according to Nielsen data, 12 million units were moved in 2015. (Niiiice, Marko).
Good music and art go hand in hand. If you need convincing, check out the Instagram of Stefan Sagmeitser – co-founder of design shop, Sagmeister & Walsh. The album art he posts each day to his 59,200 followers, is proof of how one art form can support another.
But vinyl’s increasing popularity isn’t just down to great artwork. Millennials who have got into music during the digital revolution, through apps such as Napster, LimeWire and iTunes, are looking for a different experience.
Matt Fiedler, 28 year old CEO and co-founder of Vinyl Me, Please – a record of the month club, believes that “The more digitized, more technologically advanced the world becomes, the more people crave this kind of physical, tactile experience of something”.
