If you’d rather not struggle out of your clothes in a cramped changing room, then US clothing chain Gap may soon have the answer. They’re piloting an augmented reality (AR) app that lets you ‘try on’ clothes remotely, adjusting to your size and letting you make a purchase there and then.
The Dressing Room, developed jointly by Gap, Google and Avametric creates a 3D avatar and places it in context on your mobile device. It’s possible to view the avatar from different angles, as well as changing outfits, sizes and colours before making a final choice.
So now, you can try everything on, without getting your kit off.
On certain devices at least. For now, it’s only available on Google Tango-enabled devices, but it’s likely the concept will expand to work on smartphones of all shapes and sizes.
