Your senses do a great job of protecting you from physical danger, imagine if they could keep you out of harms way online?
Well, the Smell of Data project is testing out a scent diffuser that releases a metallic scent into the air, whenever you approach an unprotected wifi network or nefarious website.
The project came out of events like Edward Snowden’s revelations about government surveillance. According to designer Leanne Winjsma, you can “Compare the Smell of Data with the smell of gas… We were taught to find this smell dangerous – and we know exactly how to act when we smell it.”
