Orange Sky Laundry provides a free mobile laundry service to homeless people throughout Australia. What started off as two washing machines in the back of a van, now has around 450 volunteers, and runs in 46 different locations across Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, The Gold Coast, and Adelaide.
Shower to the People follows a similar model. For 8 hours a day, the organisation’s truck parks up and offers free showers for anyone who has been sleeping rough.
While homelessness is a complicated issue that won’t be solved overnight, it’s great to see social initiatives popping up that help those experiencing homelessness regain their dignity and improve their prospects.
