E-commerce innovation lets readers click to buy fictional characters’ clothing.
No doubt Waiting at Hayden’s by Riley Costello is an engaging read, but if you find yourself envying the clothes and lifestyles of the principal characters, then you can actually buy yourself a slice of that fiction.
The novel is the first example of Shopfiction, a novel/e-commerce crossover that lets readers shop characters’ clothes and décor through the digital version of the book. It includes short videos of key scenes and images of the characters which allow readers to click through and purchase the clothes and home accessories featured.
Social media channels Pinterest and Instagram have already added shoppable content, and even the TV show Cougartown has experimented, highlighting products on-screen that viewers can then buy from a dedicated website. Certainly, it’s a novel way to shop.
