The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) – part of the US Department of Energy – has been getting its hands dirty. Quite literally. It’s found a way to turn human waste in sewage water into crude oil. And, instead of taking millions of years to produce, it takes just 45 minutes.
It’s thought this new technology could make up to 30 million barrels of oil annually – and it even manages to cut investments in waste treatment and disposal in the process.
A poo-fuelled future is closer than you think.
