In.gredients is a new natural food store in Austin, Texas, birthplace of Whole Foods. What sets apart this venture from the hometown competition is In.gredients’ vow to be the country’s first ever “package-free, zero waste grocery store.” The idea is so simple, it’s surprising that no one in the United States has done it yet. (Thanks very much, Alex.)
Just like people bring their own tote bags to the grocery store, In.gredients shoppers will be encouraged to bring their own containers to pack up items like grains, oils and dairy. For shoppers without containers, the store will provide compostable ones.
In.gredients also will moonlight as a community centre with cooking classes, gardening workshops and art shows on the side.
