QR code allows cashless donations to homeless people...
With society as a whole moving towards cashless transactions, the act of asking for spare change is becoming increasingly irrelevant. To make sure homeless people don’t lose out, a new solution has been developed at Oxford University which allows cashless donations.
The program, Greater Change, involves distributing QR codes among homeless people. Passers-by who want to donate simply scan the code with their smartphones and a payment is made directly to the individual. The donation goes into an account managed by a case worker who helps the person save for such things as a rental deposit, or a new passport.
Every transaction is also an opportunity for the individual to share their story and when the code is scanned, their profile appears on the donor’s smartphone.
This gives more information about their background, such as how they became homeless or what their job used to be.
