Self-driving, AI-operated Moby Marts are hitting the streets of Shanghai…
24-hour convenience stores with no staff, no tills and no permanent address could be heading your way. The designers behind this prototype, that’s currently pootling its way around Shanghai neighbourhoods, believe it’s an easier way to shop and could bring more produce to rural areas that have lost their main street stores.
Customers use an app to access the store and scan their items as they shop. Then, when they leave, the store just automatically charges their card.
This weird and wonderful mobile market makes our stores seem a bit – well – inconvenient.
