Helsinki hates cars, apparently. And so, in an attempt to free the streets from traffic, the city has adopted Whim – a new app that links together public transport, taxis, rental cars and bike share schemes to create a wholly joined-up urban transport solution.
Whim lets travellers plan and pay for the best combination of transport over any given journey. Choose a pay-as-you-go or a pre-plan option and then enter your journey. The app, which gets smarter and more personalised as it learns your preferences, then comes back with numerous options. The packages vary in price and make-up, but each includes a season ticket for Helsinki’s public transport system.
So now cross-city travel doesn’t have to be hell, just Helsinki.
