At the time of writing, #food brought up 189,884,692 pictures on Instagram. And however unappetising some people find the habit, Google has had its eye on this seemingly relentless trend of photographing food.
The internet giant has been developing tech that can capture and count the calories in our food pics. It’s called Im2Calories, and promises to analyse any still photo using ‘sophisticated deep learning algorithms’.
Whether the type of people that photograph their food, are one and the same with those that care about calorific content remains to be seen. But this sounds like technology we’re keen to tuck into.
