Think like NYC artists Athena Robles and Anna Stein who’ve opened a pop-up retail space called Free Store in Lower Manhattan. The project is a twist on the traditional retail model and will only stock one or two products that have been produced in-house; the rest of the merchandise will be provided by the public who are invited to bring in items to add to the collection, or use them as a means of barter and exchange.
The artist statement explains:
Free Store aims to reinforce and build connections based on trust and mutual exchange among the people of and visitors to Lower Manhattan. The project is designed to be a model of community and financial support that could also be used in other cities around the world.
The exhibit runs through March 22nd at a temporary gallery space located at 99 Nassau Street (between Fulton & Ann Streets). Visit the store’s Facebook page here. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Double-A-Projects-Presents-Free-Store/57088891257
