IKEA encourages customers to take up indoor farming
From flat-pack bookshelves, to flat-pack farming? Why not, says Swedish furniture giant IKEA. With the launch of its prototype indoor farm, the brand is aiming to get people growing their own food at home.
Lokal, as it’s known, was designed for IKEA by SPACE10, a project whose mission is to change our approach to traditional farming and introduce new food production methods into our cities.
Using hydroponic techniques, plants grow in nutrient rich water instead of soil. They grow up to three times faster and use 90% less water than traditional methods. And, they don’t require any sunlight, only LED lighting to simulate ‘The perfect spring day’.
Fresh veg, with no wellies required.
