Think global warming and air pollution, and cars won’t be too far from your mind. So you might be surprised to learn that the amount of methane from the world’s livestock makes up 18% of all harmful greenhouse gases – that’s more than all transport put together.
But we believe from great problems come great solutions – so could the humble (albeit harmful) cow hold the answer to the future of our planet?
At least design student Yi-Wen Tseng thinks so. Her Digestive Car features an engine fuelled by grass, incorporating bio-printed ‘cow stomachs’ to recreate methane production.
