Growing your own greens is a nice idea, for all sorts of reasons. But if you live in the urban jungle, then it’s likely your ambitions will be limited to a few straggly herbs growing on your window ledge.
But now, Swedish furniture giant IKEA is keen to get everyone growing, for the benefit of their neighbourhoods and for the environment. They’ve come up with The Growroom, a globe-shaped DIY garden designed for urban communities who lack the green space to grow their own veg.
The whole construction is made of plywood, and while you won’t be able to find it in IKEA stores, the plans are available to download for free. All you need to get started is the wood, some screws, a rubber mallet and presumably, one of IKEA’s famously lose-able Allen keys.
