If a fear of flying is keeping you from heading to the popular destination of Iceland, here’s something that might calm your nerves.
Icelandair have recreated the experience of the Aurora Borealis – a natural phenomenon with inherently soothing powers – inside their planes. They’ve called the new plane the Hekla Aurora, and once you’re in, you’re treated to a light show designed to replicate the breathtaking and much sought-after beauty of the northern lights.
Meteorologist Birta Lif Kristinsdottir, a consultant on the project, says: “Hekla Aurora provides an authentic Aurora Borealis experience to all those who fly on her. The on-board light show provides the perfect beginning to any transatlantic flight by showcasing the natural beauty of Iceland’s famous northern lights.”
A whole crew of artists have worked to recreate the beauty on the outside too, using airbrush to cover the entire plane in the ethereal blue and green glow.
