Part of our 12 Pokes of Christmas. This one’s No.12 – hope you’ve enjoyed them.
There’s no doubt that any charity idea is a good idea. But what with ice buckets, selfies and viral videos, the stakes have been raised massively this year. Which is why General Pants’ Christmas campaign feels like it’s just stumbled out of the ‘80s.
It’s got it all: celebrity ambassadors. ‘Cool’ t-shirts. Arty black and white shots of beautiful people. A rousing montage video. Try-hard retro peace signs. Phrases like ‘the world’s had a tough year’ and ‘give something back’. A generic message about peace with an equally generic hashtag. The list could go on.
Time will tell if it’s a success, but first instincts suggest people today need and want more from this sort of campaign. More integrity from brand ambassadors, more clarity of message, more originality.
