There’s nothing quite like a beer in the great outdoors. Clothing manufacturer Patagonia has long been a champion for the preservation of the latter. Now they’re doing the same by producing the former.
Long Root Ale, created by Patagonia Provisions, is a sustainable craft ale. It is brewed using the Kernza grain, a new variety of wheat. This grain requires half as much water as ordinary wheat thanks to its long roots, and because it’s a perennial crop, it grows and captures carbon all year round. The brewery where the ale is produced, the Hopworks Urban Brewery, is also one of the first to be certified Salmon Safe – carefully disposing of waste water in a way that doesn’t harm native salmon.
So now you can crack open a cold one and enjoy the view, knowing that in a small way you’re helping to reduce climate change and revolutionise agricultural practice. Cheers.
