It’s an established truth in Snickers’ world that ‘You’re not you when you’re hungry’. Acting on this insight, the brand is now monitoring the mood of the Australian nation via its Hungerithm. The algorithm follows angry posts on social media and the madder they become, the more the price of a Snickers drops.
The Hungerithm checks 14,000 posts a day and updates the price every 10 minutes depending on the level of irritation it picks up. Customers can download coupons for the discounted bars via an app and present them at any one of 630 7-Eleven stores in Oz. There’s a limit to Australian anger though and that sets the minimum price of a Snickers bar at $0.50, 82% of its regular price.
Which is something to smile about. Although that means you’d be less angry. Which means you’d be paying more for your Snickers. Best just to stay mad.
