Let’s talk bumps. No, not the kind you slow down for in the road. Or the pregnant kind. The bumps we’re on about are flavoured additives that give your drink an extra boost.
Never heard of them? Next time you’re out and about in London, head to newly opened bar The Bump Caves. Taking inspiration from the 1960s psychedelic movement, as well as Tom Wolfe’s drug-addled novel, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, The Bump Caves takes cocktail mixing to heady new heights.
Charlie McVeigh and Max Chater, who describes himself as a ‘bump chemist, distiller and rectifier’, experimented with all sorts of spirits, and realised that just about any flavour of ‘bump’ can be made with expert distillation and infusion.
There are all sorts of crazy flavoured bumps to try. And don’t worry, you don’t have to snort them – bumps can be added to your cocktail or beer, or taken as a shot. Wild.
