We’re starting to know them as Generation Viz – a wave of consumers who’ve grown up with Facebook, Snapchat and WhatsApp who habitually use emojis as a quick visual tag to express their current feelings towards products or brands.
The challenge for brand owners and their agencies is how to track these little one-click responses. One agency, Swyft, now offers a branded emoji keyboard to help measure the effects of its work. This has been trialled on high-profile projects for Dell and Ford, providing detailed data on the number of downloads and shares of content.
As the brand landscape becomes more visual in its interactions, it’s likely we’ll see a shift in emphasis away from text towards image. Or maybe that’s just Poke writer’s paranoia…
