Normally the domain of muddy wellies, dog blankets and tow ropes, the boot of your Volvo (the trunk) could have another purpose – as a delivery drop-off point. Currently being piloted in Gothenburg, Volvo On Call lets you place an order with select online retailers and they’ll deliver direct to your car.
The delivery driver locates your Volvo via GPS and has a digital key which allows one-time access. Once your parcel’s been dropped off, you receive a notification to your smartphone. Clever. For now, the service is only available to Volvo drivers in Gothenburg. And it currently only works with food retailer mat.se and, strangely, lekmer.se, a toys and games site.
Don’t forget you’ve ordered and make sure you park up at some point, otherwise you could find yourself being pursued at high speed by your groceries.
