Beauty startup uses artificial intelligence to develop personalised products
New US beauty brand Proven is using machine learning to go deeper than skin deep. Founders Amy Yuan and Ming Zhao have compiled data on thousands of skincare products to create their own database – the Beauty Genome Project. This includes more than 20,000 ingredients, taken from research papers on how skin interacts with them. Proven’s AI engine analyses this information to determine which ingredients are suitable for which skin types.
Customers answer a series of questions on the Proven website, giving information about their skin type, age, ethnicity, and so on. They can then choose either a single sample, or a bi-monthly subscription that can be updated every 8 weeks to reflect changes in lifestyle, hormone levels and local weather.
