We all know a great trailer is essential for box office success. So to promote the launch of their new AI thriller, Morgan, it was only fitting that 20th Century Fox asked the IBM Watson team to create the film’s trailer.
To decide what footage made the cut, Watson scanned through hundreds of different thrillers and horrors, identifying what went into a good scene. It then chose its top 10 picks from the film Morgan, before roping in the humans to edit the nail-biting trailer together.
From chef, craft brewer, to smart toy – we’ve seen IMB’s AI computer fit into many roles. Yet there’s something unnerving about using AI software to figure out what produces the best human reactions. Could this use off AI technology mark the end of naff film trailers, or the start of incredibly formulaic ones? Now that’s a scary thought.
