Convenience store chain introduces face-tracking tech to all its Thai stores…
Last March, convenience store 7-Eleven introduced facial recognition to all its 11,000 stores in Thailand. The KanKan AI tech was launched to identify loyalty members, suggest products to customers, analyse in-store traffic, monitor product levels and gauge the emotions of customers as they browse.
In-store facial recognition tech means access to a tonne of consumer data and its use in retail has already gained traction in Asia, particularly in China. Examples like BingoBox’s staffless store in Shanghai, KFC’s facial recognition pay station in Hangzhou, and Alipay’s Future Pharmacy in Zhengzhou all helped set the standard. Information on customer journeys around the store, shopping behaviours and emotional state allows retailers to build detailed models of the individual customers they serve.
