Wednesday 2nd June:
The mother of necessity

Kimberly-Clark’s Huggies brand has launched the Huggies ‘MomInspired Grant Program’. The programme was created to give inventive mums up to $250,000 worth of business resources. Why? To help them turn their brilliant ideas into reality.

The money will go towards helping these ‘mom experts’ bring their ideas to life and potentially onto the market – so that they don’t risk sacrificing their family’s future goals or quality of life. In order to be considered for a grant, mums simply apply online, outlining their unique baby or child care-focused idea and the chosen mums are awarded up to $15,000 to help fund their venture.

Thursday 15th April:
Families in wonderland

The Tokyo Baby Café is a mother-and-baby shop, set to open in Japan, and has been designed to capture hearts and imaginations as well as wallets. The exaggerated size and scale of the interiors echo Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, and everything in the space works for both adults and kids.

Floorboards and windows come in both adult and kid size, and there are even two sizes of lightbulbs. Door handles and light fittings are placed far above the reach of little fingers. The nursing sofa doubles as a playroom and diaper-changing table, and there are even paintings on the undersides of the tables. There are private rooms as well as public spaces, and the cafe is filled with toys and picture books, with plenty of space for manoeuvering prams and strollers.

All that’s missing are drinks and cakes labeled ‘Drink me’ and ‘Eat me’.

Friday 12th February:
Like mother’s milk

The designer, Karim Rashid, has developed the stylish ‘Iiamo Go’ bottles, a self-heating feeding bottle that gives parents-on-the-go the ability to serve body temperature milk to their baby without the use of electricity.

Iiamo Go is the only bottle in the world that combines portable, non-electrical, throw-away organic heating cartridges (Iiamo warm) and a patented heating technology that’s integrated into the bottle itself. The process is simple. Pour the mother’s milk, formula or milk powder in the bottle, insert the cartridge in the bottom of the bottle and then push, wait a few minutes and serve the milk.

The World Health Organisation recommends heating the milk to body temperature before served to babies and this is now possible no matter wherever you are – in the car, at the office, at the grandparents, in the supermarket, in a café or in the park. Also, in contrast to the vast majority of feeding bottles, iiamo go is produced in the 100% BPA-free material PP (polypropylene).
