KEY SKILLS
- Thorough analysis and effective communication
- Strong ability to understand complex problems and to design solutions that are clearly defined and described so as to reduce development and maintenance costs
- ORACLE (12 years), ORACLE Developer for Forms and Reports, and Designer for Functional Models, E/R Models, Data Dictionary and application generators, SQL*Plus, PL*SQL, Perl, Pro*C and C
- UNIX (Sun,AIX,HP,Linux), Shells (C,Korn,Perl), WINNT Server and Workstation
- INTERNET/WWW Design and development of Web pages with dynamic data access and update. Oracle Application Server and WebDB.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
- As an employee at two different software companies, I rose from a position as a software tester, through operating system development and finally to application architecture. I advanced from testing team member to project leader and project manager.
- As a business owner, I grew Elmwood Solutions Inc. to provide services from seven working consultants to more than ten different major corporations.
- As a software architect, I have designed and led development of eight different significant and successful products. I hold copyright to Pure Harvesttm , a product that automates seed analysis laboratory operations and seed inventory control and blending. I am currently focusing exclusively on the seed industry, using this product as a development base.
WORK EXPERIENCE
President May 1992 to Present
Elmwood Solutions Inc., St. Paul, Minnesota
- Managed the business operations of Elmwood Solutions since inception
- Designed and led the development of a seed testing lab management and seed sales system for Minnesota Crop Improvement Association using Oracle Designer2000. Generated code for Developer2000 tools. Achieved 80% code generation. Implemented on Win95 with WinNT server
- Designed and developed a Seed Blending system for Agribiotech. The system reads inventory from the Oracle GEMMS application, and allows the definition of mixtures and blends that meet defined quality standards for germination and purity. Blending instructions are generated, and lot inventory is tracked.
- Added the ability for seed lab customers to privately review test results over the web, and to receive automatic email notification of lab results each day. This greatly reduces the need for lab staff to respond to phone inquiries.
- Modified the Pure Harvest™ application to meet the needs of the Colorado Seed Lab, and Colorado Seed Growers Association. Enhanced the lab module to automate test planning by including test parameters as defined by the Association of Official Seed Analysts (AOSA), and perform calculations for multiple unit factors and other purity formulas including viability and Pure Live Seed.
- Added support for Regulatory Seed testing to Pure Harvest. This module allows the seed lab to compare the quality and components claimed on a seed label with the actual content of the lot.
- Built on the success of the enhancements done for Colorado by porting those features into the Minnesota system. Further increased lab productivity by building specialized Germination and Purity modules that allow the seed analyst to enter the germination counts while the test is in progress. This allows easy reporting of early results, and enhances accuracy by eliminating hand calculation. The germ module validates the results against the standard deviation allowed by AOSA standards. The purity module incorporates detailed descriptions of each variety. An unlimited number of retests may be done and stored in the database.
- Designed and led development of Customer Loyalty Management Systems for Southwest Bell and Chase Manhattan Bank.
- For Northern States Power, designed and led the development of a work management system to support regular and emergency maintenance of equipment in a live electrical network. This system allowed work to be planned and executed within a process designed to guarantee the safety of the crew and the fast restoration of customer service
- Design Consultant at Empros Systems International for data modeling, database design and application architecture. Provided training in database design and programming standards. Designed and implemented parts of an energy management system using Oracle7 stored procedures, triggers, Oracle7 role based security, Forms4.0 and Pro*C. Wrote code generators to produce triggers to run complex validation checks on data during an import process
- Analyzed code for performance problems. By reprogramming the installation process I reduced one phase of the installation from six hours to three minutes
- Designed and developed a system for GRACO Inc. to test the accuracy of measuring device calibration to meet ISO9000 manufacturing standards. The system sets the time of calibration, provides the calibration instructions and stores the results. Designed and generated with Oracle CASE
Project Leader/Manager May 1991 to May 1992
HSB Reliability Technologies, Eden Prairie, Minnesota
- Analyzed customer requirements and wrote the technical content of contract documents
- Provided design and project planning leadership for core functions of Maintenance Management software
- Produced general design documents for product enhancement, including programs, tables and indexes for new features Scheduled and supervised programming
- Used SQL*Forms3.0 to implement the more difficult parts of the user interface
- Wrote C code to analyze rates of equipment usage, predict warranty expirations and schedule preventive maintenance based on user defined schedules
Senior Information Management Analyst July 1985 to May 1991
Control Data Corporation, Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Provided Oracle and UNIX consulting services and demos for sales proposals
- Designed and implemented a Product Environmental Assessment Database for 3M Corporation
- Project leader and Oracle DBA, Software Manufacturing. Responsible for design and implementation of an Oracle based system for software manufacturing. Provided design and work direction to two analysts
- Software Engineering Tools Development. Promoted software engineering methods and quality metrics to the division. Designed and implemented a database to help management track and control the process and cost of software development
