Ad agency McCann Japan are pleased to introduce their new creative director. He doesn’t sport the latest designer eyewear. He doesn’t argue with clients. And he doesn’t get drunk at awards ceremonies. In fact, he isn’t human at all. Meet AI-CD β, the world’s first artificially intelligent creative director. (Actually, some might argue that’s not a first at all…)
AI-CD β has been programmed to offer direction across a range of advertising projects. This he does by trawling through databases of ads to find the best examples to inspire clients and creative colleagues.
“Artificial intelligence is already being used to create a wide variety of entertainment, including music, movies, and TV drama, so we’re very enthusiastic about the potential of AI-CD β for the future of ad creation” says McCann Japan CEO Yasuyuki Katagi.
Here at Poke Towers, we admit to being sceptical. We like to think there’s a bit more to creative direction than looking for new ideas in what has gone before. But still, if AI-CD β was to start reporting, “So anyway, last year at Cannes, me and Nils Leonard decided we were gonna crash WPP’s yacht…” then we’d be seriously worried.
