Debating the big issues, you should always look at both sides of the argument. But these days it’s probably a good idea to look upwards too. Women on Waves, a Dutch pro-choice group has recently used a drone to drop packs of abortion pills over Polish territory as a protest against the country’s abortion laws.
The drone took off from Frankfurt, Germany and flew across the Oder river into Poland where it released its cargo. Given that the drone weighed less than 5kg, wasn’t used for commercial purposes, remained in sight of the operator and did not enter restricted air space then the flight, technically, was legal under both German and Polish law.
Whichever side of the issue you come down on, it’s certainly a provocative gesture and one that’s likely to inspire other pressure groups to use drone technology to take direct action.
