Attitude
Yes, and....?
Doesn’t every company talk about their unique attitude and their amazing people? Yes, and we’d like to do the same. But, please bear with us. We believe that the kind of people we are and the way we do business does make a tangible difference - to you, to the work we do for you and to your bottom line. And we’d like to prove it. Still with us? OK, here goes.
In a word?
Human. If we had to use one word to describe our attitude, that would have to be it. By human we mean that we genuinely put people first because we all get the most out of it that way. You can see it in the Elmwood Trust, the pioneering scheme we set up three years ago that makes everyone here a shareholder. You talk to the organ grinder not the monkey. It’s in our open-plan buildings, no executive offices or ivory towers, and regular six monthly desk swaps. With no barriers, you get a team that shares information easily and talks openly. It’s in the fact that we’re an independent business. And uncompromisingly so. You benefit from our freedom to make decisions for the right reasons.
We couldn’t be more different
We pride ourselves on the diversity of people who work here - everything from an ex-Bunny Girl, England Rugby player and ballet impresario to a hypnotist or world traveller (we’re not giving any names away). In fact, we actively encourage it. The benefit to you is that there’s a rich vein of life experience and knowledge to draw upon as well as the more technical skills that equip us to do what we do.
And yet the same
Hard as it is define, there is an Elmwood attitude too. Diverse as we are, we all share certain characteristics. For one thing, we’re open and honest. You’ll never find us recommending a solution we don’t 100% believe in. Likewise, if there are challenges with a project, we’re always up-front about them. On a basic level, we’re just nice people to do business with. So we’ve been told. It’s partly because we enjoy what we do. Which is why we give our time to environmental or charity organisations and industry bodies such as the DBA or the RSA.
